Of Sunspots, Weather and 2012

Here’s food for thought. I just read the quote below in an email notice I receive from spaceweather.com.The first thing that came to mind upon reading it was the fact our weather here on Earth is going pretty crazy as well. Makes me wonder how interrelated one is with the other. Long distance from the sun to Earth, but if we are all interconnected why shouldn’t the planets and other bodies in the universe be interconnected as well?

All the talk of upheaval and renewal in 2012 comes to mind as well.

Radio-Active Sunspot: Huge sunspot AR1476 is crackling with M-class solar flares and appears to be on the verge of producing something even stronger. The sunspot’s ‘beta-gamma-delta’ magnetic field harbors energy for X-class flares, the most powerful kind. Radio operators are recording strong bursts of shortwave static from the sunspot as it turns toward Earth. Visit http://spaceweather.com for sample recordings and forecasts.

One Man’s Journey with Marijuana

We often hear about marijuana, marijuana users, the effects marijuana has on the users, etc.. It’s not that often that you hear about all this from the user perspective. Since this IS “It’s All in the Perspective”, I want to share the article I recently received with you. It was offered for posting to another site, but was apparently not used. I think it is a perspective that needs to be heard. Both the author and I would be interested to hear any feedback you may have for us.

Hawaii… the paradise of the United States and one of the most recent of the fine lands to be added to this country’s territories. It is my home and home to the tradition of cooking pork under ground, land of the aloha spirit, and home of the famous Maui-Wowie strain of marijuana. (more…)

Thoughts on Strength

Oregon Wolf

Both Native Americans and Buddhists teach we should learn from nature. We should always interact with nature in the most growth positive way.

But how do we apply what we learn to developing a way to work best with our fellow man? Especially if the majority of them seem to be at odds with what we perceive to be the “right path”? How can we best affect change while nurturing ourselves? Or should we follow our own path and let the rest of the world be damned? (more…)

From A Distance

Deserted Rocky Mountain Homestaed

Remember that song? It was Bette Midler who sang it and part of the refrain was “God is watching us, God is watching us. God is watching us from a distance.”

What does this have to do with today’s photo? It was the first photo that came to mind when I woke up this morning. As I was resizing it to insert in the blog, “From a Distance” was running through my mind. (more…)

Point of View

If I Only Had A Brain …

That’s the song refrain I woke up with this morning. Sometimes, nah, make that “a lot of the time”, I drive my poor husband up the wall with the songs I find in my head each morning. Sometimes they’re okay but more often than not they’re just plain nuts. Like the day I awoke to “Old MacDonald”! Never having had children, this was not high on his list of appropriate musical accompaniment to his morning coffee.

Anyway, this morning it was “If I Only Had a Brain” from the Wizard of Oz. Go figure. I know why the theme was there. I’m feeling a bit out of sorts and useless lately. When that happens it is inevitable that old tapes from childhood return to torture me. “You are not pretty. You are not popular. Being smart will not get you friends or make you popular.” ad nauseum. Thank you Mommie Dearest! (more…)

A Memory of Trees

A Memory of Trees

A few years back we were living in Coquitlam, BC. There was a small park I loved to walk in that gave access to the banks of the Fraser River. The park was just off the 7A Hwy, a shortcut between Coquitlam and points east.

One day I ran into an elderly lady and we talked as we walked the trail. She told me she had been coming here for many, many years. She said the whole area use to be much nicer.

I asked what she meant. (more…)

Changes in Attitude, Changes in Latitude …

It’s funny how the Universe, Great Spirit, God, whatever you may choose to call that Higher Power, throws interesting curve balls at us. The old saw of “You makes your plans and then life intervenes” really is true. There were a lot of years where I (Quietly, under my breath, most of the time.) kicked and screamed at those curve balls. I’ve outgrown that tendency, for the most part. I’ve come to realize that everything works out for the best. Sometimes you just have to be patient and open-minded enough to see it. (more…)

Making a Difference in the World

I was cleaning out my old files today and came across a real keeper. I don’t remember where I got the quote. I don’t think it is something I originally wrote. I honestly don’t remember where it came from. But it’s worth sharing!

Making a difference in this world depends upon honesty and integrity. Being ethical is not only the right way to live; it is also the most practical way to live. (more…)

Maintaining a Sense of Wonder in the Winter

I don’t know whether it’s the shorter days and a case of SADD (Seasonal Affective Depression Disorder) or just frustration, but I’m having a hard time maintaining my sense of wonder lately.

Maybe I need to grab my camera and just bug out with it for a few hours.

Here’s hoping everyone else is having a great winter!
